Why Plant-Based Fragrance Behaves Differently

Here's the part of plant-based fragrance that nobody in the industry really talks about.

The compounds that make a scent throw far, cling to surfaces, and linger for hours? A lot of them are derived from petrochemicals...the same raw materials as gasoline.

Literally made from oil pulled out of the ground. They're the foundation of how most conventional fragrance is built, and they're in the candles, the reed diffusers, and the room sprays sitting on shelves at every major retailer right now. 

Nobody puts that on the label. We don't use them. We certify that we don't use them. We send every formula to an independent lab to confirm it. 

The person who lives inside this reality every day is Elisa. She's our lab associate.  Every day making things, testing things, figuring out why something that should work isn't quite working yet.

Every prototype at Grow passes through her hands. She's warm and funny and will tell me with complete calm when my new favorite fragrance simply won't work in a candle. 😅 

What she'll also tell you is this: plant-based fragrance smells like the actual thing. Not a lab's reconstruction of what "linen" or "driftwood" or "citrus" should smell like at maximum volume. The real version. And once you know what you're smelling, it's hard to go back.

Linen took us years to get right. We couldn't find a clean linen fragrance that smelled like actual fabric dried outside rather than a synthetic approximation of it, so we blended it ourselves. One of my personal favorites — if you haven't tried it, this is your sign.

Golden Grove started as our answer to every citrus candle that smelled more like a cleaning product than a fruit. It launched as a summer seasonal and never left because people kept coming back for it. Which tells you everything!
