‹  All Posts

Pumpkins, pumpkins, so many pumpkins! What better time of year to talk about pumpkins than when we are just starting to see signs of the season?

Fall is here, and we couldn’t be happier with prepping our home for the change in season. We were super curious about Fall’s most favorite flavor and scent in the world and started researching them, we were amazed by these peculiar pumpkin facts!

Here are 3 of the most fascinating facts about pumpkins we could find:

Where did the word ‘pumpkin’ come from?

The origin of the word pumpkin is oddly surprising. The word "pumpkin" comes from the Greek word Pepõn, which means ‘large melon.’ The French nasalized it into "pompon," which the English changed to "Pumpion" and so on until American settlers arrived at the word we use today: pumpkin.

The word first showed up in the fairy tale Cinderella!

Pumpkin Seeds are natural mood boosters

If you're looking for a way to make your mood a little happier, look no further than pumpkin seeds. The iron in pumpkin seeds may improve your mood. Iron is required to produce dopamine and serotonin, two feel-good hormones we all love. Pumpkin seeds are also high in magnesium and zinc—two minerals that are often linked to better moods. Magnesium is said to help with controlling certain types of depression, while zinc is needed for proper brain function and development.

The smell of pumpkin triggers memories

The smell of this autumn flavor often triggers familiar, cozy memories — creating a national nostalgia and increased desire to reunite with the upcoming season.

That's why pumpkin spice is so popular — we all know what it smells like and how good it makes us feel. It's a comforting aroma that reminds us of cozy nights by the fire, or days spent picking out the perfect comfort meal. Pumpkin spice isn't just a scent — it's an experience!
